First range tests were carried out in Kaiserslautern to determine the transmission behavior between the gateway and the IoT node. With the friendly permission of the administration of the TU Kaiserslautern, a gateway could be temporarily installed on the roof of the administration building of the TU Kaiserslautern.
To determine the range of the LoraWAN signal, an IoT node was positioned at various locations on the university campus and in the city of Kaiserslautern. The measurement signals and position were recorded with the TTNMapper app.
With a direct line-of-sight (LOS) from the IoT node to the gateway, a range of up to 5km could be achieved.
