Bachelor Program Mechanical Engineering

Information about the degree program

Mechanical engineering deals with the development, design, and operation of systems, machinery, and technical products of all kinds throughout their entire lifecycle. Due to the diverse requirements, the bachelor's program imparts fundamental content from all essential engineering sub-disciplines. These include, among others: mechanics, thermodynamics, materials science, manufacturing technology, electrical engineering, ,mechanical design principles and machine elements. The bachelor's degree qualifies for direct entry into the profession. However, our stated educational goal is the master's degree. Therefore, all bachelor's students have access to a master's program spot.

Through lectures and exercises in higher mathematics, experimental physics, and the mentioned sub-disciplines, the foundation for engineering education is laid in the first semesters. A programming education in the first two semesters provides the basis for solving problems in the respective context with self-written code in the subsequent modules. Starting from the fifth semester, students can choose their own focus and one of the seven competence fields: product development, vehicle technology, materials science and engineering, production technology, computational engineering, applied computer science, as well as mechatronics and automation technology. This allows them to deepen their knowledge according to their own interests and lay the foundations for the corresponding master's programs offered. At the same time, acquired knowledge and skills are applied and deepened in a 16-week technical internship. The bachelor's thesis provides initial insights into scientific work and concludes the program."
