Spin+ mechanical sensing: Investigation and characterization of strain induced spin phenomena in steel (Project B08)

The overall goal of the project is to understand the influence of the monotonic and cyclic mechanical loading on the integral magnetic properties as well as magnetic microstructure of various classes of engineering steels. As a result, the mechanical behavior of the material such as elastic/plastic strain and early stages of fatigue damage can be detected and predicted using magnetically sensitive methods such as MOKE (Magneto-Optical Kerr Effect) and 3MA-EMAT (micromagnetic, multiparameter, microstructure and stress analysis with electromagnetic acoustic transducers).
