On November 17, 2023, Robert Hesse presented and defended with honors his doctoral thesis entitled "Untersuchung des Fließ- und Kompressionsverhaltens von Pulvern und nicht-sphärischen Partikeln mittels DEM-Simulationen und Deep Learning" in a public university lecture.

In his dissertation, Robert Hesse investigated the complex flow and compression behavior of particulate materials under the influence of the gas phase using the discrete element method and methods of artificial intelligence and developed the new basic models for cohesive and plastic particles. The approaches and models developed in this work can be used to predict and optimize the transport, separation, dosing and pressing processes in particle technology processes depending on particle properties.

The work was reviewed by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Sergiy Antonyuk from the Chair of Particle Process Engineering (MVT) at the RPTU Kaiserslautern-Landau and Prof. Carsten Schilde from the Technical University of Braunschweig, Institute of Particle Technology.
