Bachelor Program Energy and Process Engineering
Information on the degree program
The engineering disciplines of Energy and Process Engineering deal with the technical realization of processes that convert resources and raw materials into usable energy and marketable end products. The equipment, machinery, and systems required for these processes need to be designed, constructed, and operated according to the specific production process. The scientific fundamentals for this field are similar to those of mechanical engineering, so at the beginning of the education, many of the training contents for process engineers overlap with those of mechanical engineers. In the Bachelor's program, fundamental engineering subjects such as mechanics, thermodynamics, materials science, electrical engineering, and design theory are taught, and they are complemented by aspects of energy and process engineering, including heat transfer, equipment design, mechanical, thermal, and bio-process engineering, as well as energy technology.
The interdisciplinary Bachelor's degree qualifies students for direct entry into the workforce but can also be supplemented by a consecutive Master's program. A Master's study place is available to all Bachelor's students.
In the Bachelor's program, alongside lectures and exercises in mathematics and chemistry, the fundamentals from the aforementioned sub-disciplines are covered. Programming training in the first two semesters forms the basis for solving problems in subsequent modules with self-written code in the respective context. Laboratories in the field of process engineering provide practical university content. Starting from the sixth semester, the study can be deepened through a wide range of elective modules. A sixteen-week practical internship allows the application of acquired skills in the industry. The program concludes with a first scientific work, the Bachelor's thesis.
