Although the functional principle of the gas turbines was already conceived in the 18th century, they were only able to reach their current maturity in all disciplines, materials and cooling processes only since the middle of the 20th century due to the rapid development of theoretical design methods. In addition to the gas turbines for propulsion technology, they now occupy their permanent place in power generation and propulsion of work machines due to the achieved power density as stationary gas turbines. The lecture provides an overview of the development, types, design methods and a view of development trends and their development Application potential in the primary electricity generation requirements, which are influenced by climate protection targets.
