The research activities at the Department of Mechanical and Process Engineering are characterized by a balanced mix of publicly funded projects and industry collaborations. Both basic research and the application-oriented industrial research play a major role.

The following themes are the focus of the faculty:

Numerous interdisciplinary and international research projects have emerged in recent years through the strong networking of the department with other departments of the University of Kaiserslautern, in particular the electrical and information engineering, computer science, civil engineering, chemistry, and physics.

As part of the Rheinland Pfalz research initiative and other coordinated programs, the individual departments and workgroups work together with their research partners in numerous research areas and districts along the University of Kaiserslautern, as well as in collaborative research centers and graduate schools.
